Blakely Interior Design is one of those rare, dream clients that came to me with a strong sense of who they are. Janelle is unapologetically herself and knows her clients well. And boy does she stand out.
I met her at a conference last year and immediately knew she was someone I would love to work with. She talked effortlessly about her firm’s use of color and patterns (while she rocked her bright red lipstick) and the company culture at Blakely Interior Design, and it became quickly evident that they needed much more than just a website update. Blakely knew what was making them stand out, but they weren’t totally clear on their client’s mindset and definitely weren’t leveraging it in their brand. We set to work on doing just that so that Blakely could take the position of style influencer that they deserved.
Their fearless design style, pattern mixing and vibrant use of color was just the tip of the iceberg on defining their brand. Behind all of their creativity was an amazingly buttoned-up service experience that was the true secret to gently pushing clients just outside of their comfort zone so that they could confidently embrace color in their homes.
We settled on an aesthetic that included just the right mix of classic typography, bold colors, and patterns without overwhelming or taking away from their incredibly beautiful project photography.
Together with Deb Mitchell Writing, we came up with the “live vibrantly” tagline, and all of the messaging and website copy stemmed from that idea, blending perfectly with the brand aesthetic.
The Blakely website was truly a labor of love in design, copywriting and development. The always amazing Jessica Goddard took my design and ran with it, bringing all of the features to life in a more perfect way than I could’ve imagined. Animations, custom search functions, custom page layouts for days…you name it.
To create a client journey that does justice to the Blakely team’s process, we knew their website had to surprise and delight at every turn. Engaging details are all over this website, including a custom sorting feature on their project gallery so that you can view all of their gorgeous project images by color palette, a captivating blog that completely stands on its own, and a page documenting their process that immediately shows you they are the best of the best.
You could get lost in this site for days (and we hope you do!).
Once we tackled the website, we set to perfecting the Blakely brand on a micro level. I love working with clients who understand the importance of injecting their brand into every detail, like branded Pinterest board covers, email templates, a brochure, blog graphics and lots of printed goodies. We even created templates for them in Canva so that they could continue to create branded materials for the brand without veering from their aesthetic.
